Hooves pound across the starlit open trail.
A lone rider crests the final hill. In the valley below, the dim glow of oil lanterns marks his destination. A twelve-hour ride and seven horses later, the rider makes his way across a sturdy wooden bridge and up to the town proper.
Tired and sore, he slips from his saddle. He helps the next rider transfer the mochila from one horse to the other. The fresh rider mounts up and spurs his horse into motion, disappearing into the lonely night with barely enough time to wave goodbye.
The first rider leaves his horse with the stable master. A hot meal and a cozy bed wait for him at the Smith Hotel. In a few days, he'll take up the reins again and return to Saint Joseph, MO with another mochila going east. But for now, he can rest. Welcome to the Seneca Pony Express Museum.
