Make a Weekend of It: Celebrate the Nemaha County Free Fair in Seneca
Fair Weekend in Seneca is a time for traditions, memories, and a whole lot of hometown fun! From 4-H exhibits and fair activities to downtown shopping, classic cars, and one of Nemaha County’s favorite summer traditions, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Nemaha County Free Fair kicks off Thursday, with a weekend full of activities celebrating local youth, agriculture, and community. Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy fair events, exhibits, and activities while experiencing the traditions that make the fair a highlight of summer in Nemaha County.
While you’re in town, make sure to explore downtown Seneca! Local businesses will be welcoming visitors with Fair Weekend Sidewalk Sales, unique shopping, and great places to grab a bite to eat. Take some time between fair activities to discover the shops, restaurants, and small-town charm that make downtown Seneca special.
The fun continues Saturday evening as Seneca Cruise Night celebrates 25 years of cruising the route on Saturday, July 25, from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
Classic cars, old-time rock ’n roll, and memories will fill the streets as vehicles cruise the traditional route from Highway 36 to 11th Street, down Main Street, and back to 1st Street. There is no fee to cruise, but participants can register at Nemaha Valley Motors beginning at 6:00 p.m. for $2 to be eligible for prize drawings throughout the evening. Tune in to KMZA 92.1 FM for music, announcements, and winners throughout the night.
On Sunday, July 26, Seneca City Park becomes the place to be as the 40th Annual Seneca Car Show brings together car enthusiasts, families, and visitors for a day filled with incredible vehicles and community pride.
Cars, trucks, and motorcycles of all makes and models will fill the park as the show celebrates four decades of history. This year’s event includes Top 50 awards, special trophies, music, trivia, games, door prizes, and a 50/50 pot. Visitors can also enjoy breakfast served by the Nemaha County Historical Society from 8:15-10:00 a.m. at the south shelter house and lunch served by the Seneca Boy Scouts from the north shelter house.
Fair Weekend concludes with one of Nemaha County’s favorite traditions, the Nemaha County Free Fair Parade, on Sunday, July 26, beginning at 6:00 p.m. along Main Street in downtown Seneca.
This year’s theme, “Stars, Stripes and 4-H Forever,” celebrates Nemaha County’s agricultural roots, local youth, and the community spirit that makes Fair Weekend special. Businesses, organizations, clubs, families, and individuals are encouraged to participate. There is no cost and no pre-registration required.
Parade participants should be lined up by 5:30 p.m., with 4-H float judging beginning at 5:15 p.m. and business float judging beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participants are reminded that candy and giveaways must be handed out by walkers and may not be thrown from moving vehicles to help keep everyone safe.
Whether you’re cheering on local youth at the fair, finding something new downtown, cruising the route, admiring classic cars in the park, or watching the parade from Main Street, Fair Weekend in Seneca is about celebrating the traditions and people that make our community special.
