Seneca Named 2025 Kansas Main Street of the Year
Big things are happening in downtown Seneca and now the entire state is taking notice.
The Seneca Area Chamber and Downtown Impact has been named the 2025 Kansas Main Street of the Year, the highest honor awarded through the Kansas Main Street program. The award was presented March 16 in Topeka and recognizes communities demonstrating strong leadership, organization, and measurable impact in downtown revitalization.
For Seneca, the recognition reflects years of consistent, community-driven effort.
Local business owners, volunteers, and residents have played a central role in shaping a downtown that continues to evolve while staying rooted in its identity. That work has focused on strengthening the district as both a destination for visitors and a place people choose to call home.
“This recognition reflects the intentional, community-driven work happening in Seneca every day,” said Executive Director Kylee Bergstrom. “This award belongs to the people who continue to invest in our community.”
The impact of that work is reflected in recent data. Over the past year, downtown Seneca recorded more than 500,000 visits and attracted over 46,000 unique visitors. Repeat visitation rates indicate that many are returning, reinforcing the district’s growing role as a regional destination.
Community input has also guided that progress. More than 460 survey responses, along with ongoing stakeholder engagement, have helped shape priorities for downtown development and investment.
State leaders say Seneca’s approach stands out.
“The Seneca Area Chamber and Downtown Impact have set a high standard for Main Street programs through their strategic leadership, organizational strength, and measurable impact,” said Kansas Main Street Program Manager Hannah Hasbrouck.
That approach has focused on balancing growth with preservation, supporting local businesses, and creating experiences that bring both residents and visitors downtown.
For many in Seneca, the recognition feels like a reflection of something already visible day to day.
A downtown that is active.
A community that is engaged.
And a shared belief in what is being built together.
